The surge in anti-Semitism in the UK since the October 7 attacks is one of the highest in Europe,…

Britain has seen the fourth-highest rise in anti-Semitic incidents in Europe since the October 7 Hamas attacks, ‘staggering’ figures have revealed. Amid rising concern about US-style pro-Palestine protests at UK universities, a disturbing international league table yesterday showed hate crimes aimed at Jewish people leapt from 1,662 to 4,103 last year – up 146 per cent. In Europe, only France, Switzerland and Bulgaria recorded a higher rate of increase – prompting campaigners to warn that Britain was ‘succumbing to a racist mob’. Disturbingly, the UK also witnessed 58 per cent more assaults on Jewish people between October 7 and the end of 2023 than the US, despite having just one twentieth as many Jews. The alarming figures come as universities were accused of deserting Jewish students over pro-Palestinian protests sweeping the country. Britain has seen the fourth highest rate of anti-Semitic incidents in Europe since Hamas unleashed their terror attack in southern Israel on October 7 last year The aftermath of an attack on the Supernova music Festival by Palestinian militants on October 7 Students at an encampment on the grounds of Newcastle University, protesting against the war in Gaza West Yorkshire Police at Leeds University where protesters set up tents on campus in solidarity with Palestine On Saturday, Edward Isaacs, president of the Union of Jewish Students, said that campus bosses had not been ‘allies’ to his members and were not making them feel ‘included’. Tell police of hate speech on campus, says minister University bosses must alert the police if there is ‘illegal hate speech’ or extremism during campus protests, the Education Secretary has said. Gillian Keegan warned vice-chancellors of ‘alarming levels of division and violence’ at universities in the US where pro-Palestine activists have clashed with counter-protesters. Protests have spread to British universities, with students setting up tents. University officials have been summoned to Downing Street this week to discuss the issue. In a letter, Mrs Keegan tells them: ‘I know a great deal of work is already under way to plan emergency responses to any escalation of protests… enabling students of all faiths to complete their studies without fear of intimidation or discrimination… Where there is evidence of possible criminality, including illegal hate speech or supporting a proscribed terrorist organisation such as Hamas, it is crucial that you contact the police.’ Advertisement Figures compiled in an annual report on anti-Semitism by Tel Aviv University and the respected Anti-Defamation League found a sharp increase in incidents since October 7 last year in a string of countries. Subsequent analysis by the Daily Mail found that the percentage rise in the UK was only topped by France – home to Europe’s biggest Jewish population and where there was a 284 per cent increase in anti-Semitic incidents – Switzerland and Bulgaria. Outside Europe, recorded incidents in Australia – home to 118,200 Jews – rocketed by 737 per cent, from 79 in October and November 2022 to 662 in the same period 12 months later. A spokesman for the Campaign Against Antisemitism said yesterday: ‘These staggering figures are the latest confirmation of the surging anti-Semitism that we are seeing across all areas of British life since the October 7 Hamas attack. ‘As this report shows, this is not a problem unique to Britain, but Britain is not faring well, and every country must act to protect its Jewish community. ‘This is not the tolerant Britain that we cherish: it is a Britain succumbing to a racist mob.’ Highlighting how incidents were on the rise globally even before October 7, the report’s authors warned the Hamas terror outrage had ‘helped spread a fire that was already out of control’. Professor Uriya Shavit, head of the Centre for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry, cautioned that ‘if current trends continue, the curtain will descend on the ability to lead Jewish lives in the West’. ‘With bomb threats against synagogues becoming a daily occurrence, Jewish existence in the West is forced to fortify itself, and the more it does so, the more the sense of security and normality is undermined,’ he added.

US Air Force Secretary Kendall flies in cockpit of plane controlled by AI

U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall rode in the cockpit of a fighter jet on Friday, which flew over the desert in California and was controlled by artificial intelligence. Last month, Kendall announced his plans to fly in an AI-controlled F-16 to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee’s defense panel, while speaking about the future of air warfare being dependent on autonomously operated drones. On Friday, the senior Air Force leader followed through with his plans, making what could be one of the biggest advances in military aviation since stealth planes were introduced in the early 1990s. Kendall flew to Edwards Air Force Base – the same desert facility where Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier – to watch and experience AI flight in real time. US MILITARY ‘OUT OF TIME’ IN PUSH AGAINST ADVERSARIES’ MODERNIZATION, AIR FORCE SECRETARY SAYS After the flight, Kendall spoke with the Associated Press about the technology and the role it will play in air combat. “It’s a security risk not to have it. At this point, we have to have it,” the secretary said. The Associated Press and NBC were granted permission to watch the secret flight with the agreement that neither would report on the matter until the flight was complete, due to security concerns. AIR FORCE SECRETARY PLANS TO RIDE IN AI-OPERATED F-16 FIGHTER AIRCRAFT THIS SPRING The F-16 controlled by AI is called Vista, and it flew Kendall in maneuvers reaching over 550 mph, putting pressure on his body of nearly five times the force of gravity. Flying alongside Vista and Kendall was a human-piloted F-16, and the two jets raced within 1,000 feet of each other performing twists and loops, in an effort to force their opponent into a place of submission. Kendall grinned as he climbed out of the cockpit after the hour-long flight, saying he saw enough to trust the AI technology in deciding whether to fire weapons during a war. PENTAGON SEEKS LOW-COST AI DRONES TO BOLSTER AIR FORCE: HERE ARE THE COMPANIES COMPETING FOR THE OPPORTUNITY Many oppose the idea of computers making that decision, fearing AI may one day be able to drop bombs on people without consulting with humans. The same people who oppose AI-powered war machines are also seeking greater restrictions on its use. One of the groups seeking stronger restrictions is the International Committee of the Red Cross. “There are widespread and serious concerns about ceding life-and-death decisions to sensors and software,” the group warned, adding the autonomous weapons “are an immediate cause of concern and demand an urgent, international political response.” EUROPE SEEKS TO BECOME ‘GLOBAL REFERENCE POINT’ WITH AI OFFICE Still, Kendall says human oversight will always be at play when weapons are considered. The Air Force is planning to have an AI-enabled fleet of over 1,000 AI-operated drones, with the first being in operation by 2028. In March, the Pentagon said it was looking to develop new artificial intelligence-guided planes, offering two contracts for several private companies to compete against each other to obtain. The Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) project is part of a $6 billion program that will add at least 1,000 new drones to the Air Force. The drones will be designed to deploy alongside human-piloted jets and provide cover for them, acting as escorts with full weapons capabilities. The drones could also act as scouts or communications hubs, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)? The companies bidding for the contract include Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Atomics and Anduril Industries. Cost-cutting is one of the elements of AI that appeals to the Pentagon for pursuing the project. In August 2023, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said deploying AI-enabled autonomous vehicles would provide “small, smart, cheap and many” expendable units to the U.S. military, helping overhaul the “too-slow shift of U.S. military innovation.” But the idea is to not fall too far behind China, which has modernized its air defense systems, which are much more sophisticated and put manned planes at risk when they get too close. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Drones have the potential of interrupting such defense systems and could be used to jam them or provide surveillance for crews. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The Hague (Netherlands), May 6 (IANS) PSV Eindhoven won the 2023-24 Dutch Eredivisie title for the first time since 2017-18 after a 4-2 win at home against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday. Sparta shocked the hosts with the first goal when Metinho smashed home after just eight minutes. However, PSV equalized through an own goal by Said Bakari, before Johan Bakayoko gave the home side the lead in the 26th minute. PSV seemed bothered by nerves, and Olivier Boscagli headed a Sparta cross into his own goal, the half-time score was 2-2. However, in the second half, PSV showed a different face, and strikes from Boscagli and Jordan Teze sealed the victory, reports Xinhua. With the win, PSV now have 87 points from 32 matches, with two games still to play, and a goal difference of 107 goals scored and 19 conceded. Last season’s champions Feyenoord are already certain of second place, with both teams earning direct tickets to next season’s UEFA Champions League. Under coach Peter Bosz, who succeeded Ruud van Nistelrooy last year, PSV have had an outstanding season, starting with 17 consecutive Eredivisie wins before a 1-1 draw at FC Utrecht on January 21. The first and so far, only defeat came on March 30 this year against NEC Nijmegen. PSV also won the Dutch Super Cup with a win over Feyenoord in August, and the Dutch giants also reached the last 16 of the Champions League, falling to German side Borussia Dortmund.
