Obajana Multiple Crashes: FRSC Boss Orders Detailed Investigation, Prosecution Of Drivers

LAGOS – Peeved by the scores of road users killed as a result of the multiple road crashes that occurred on Sunday at Obajana Market in Kogi State, Mr. Ali Biu, the Corps Mar-shal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has ordered investigation into the accident. In all, no fewer than 13 souls, in-cluding children, were lost to the accident, which FRSC said was caused by a failed braking system. A statement by Mr. Jonas Agwu, Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC, said that Biu has directed the Kogi State Sector Command-er of the corps to lead the inves-tigation team, which would lead to speedy prosecution of all the erring drivers responsible for the multiple accident. The statement assured that the drivers responsible for these accidents would not go scot-free and expressed confidence in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) as well as judiciary to do due dili-gence on the issue. He insisted that the erring drivers would be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the National Road Traffic Reg-ulations 2012. Biu pointed out that prelimi-nary reports by the FRSC indicat-ed that the crash involved a total of four vehicles consisting of two Dangote trucks, one Sharon bus and a motor bike. He explained that the accident occurred due to the failure of one of the braking systems of Dangote trucks while on excessive speed and crashed into three stationery vehicles, including a bus carrying 12 passengers. He lamented that the impact of the crash resulted in a fire out-break that killed the 12 passengers in the bus and the motor bike rider. On the whole, the crash in-volved 15 people, eight male adults and three female adults, three male children and one female child. He added that 13 persons, com-prising six male adults, three male children, three female adults and one female child were killed while the remaining two victims got res-cued by FRSC operatives without injuries.
